Centered in the two pictures below is the Caffé Mediterraneum, a coffee shop of great renown. It is known to its habitués as The Med. Its name means center-of-the-earth to us and it has been central to the lives of many people, including me. I have spent years at the Med, in conversation with all kinds of people; Some have become famous, some infamous, but nearly everyone who comes to the Med and stays for a while is very interesting; many are crazy; BUT ... one finds a tolerance of unusual opinions there, that would make anyone wonder at the freedom of thought which exists in America, and California, and Berkeley, and especially at the Med. I like that.
